We are a blended family of six, and we reside on a 5-acre homestead in Hannibal, Missouri. Around here, you’ll find happy, free-ranging, pasture-raised chickens, a growing herd of eight Nigerian Dwarf goats, and a few of our furry and friendly mousers, Flynn and Keagan.
I didn’t start out with the intention of creating products for sale. The beginnings of Rustic Hen Acres started eight years ago with just one wife and mom’s commitment to provide clean, chemical-free food and products for our family. It began with a desire to grow my own food to feed my family.
I grew up canning, and I wanted to control what was going into our food. In my great-grandma Hazel’s day, you grew and raised what you ate. Food didn’t have chemicals and preservatives you’ve never heard of—and almost certainly can’t pronounce!
Preserving back then meant filling and canning beautiful glass Mason jars with whole, fresh vegetables and none of today’s junk. I have such fond memories of listening to her stories about the farm she and her six sisters were raised on— all while being surrounded by the women in my family as I stood barefoot on a wooden chair, snapping beans. I wanted that same wholesome nutrition for my own family.
One summer, while canning tomato sauce, I began to create my own twist on my grandma’s pasta sauce recipe. I think I canned around two dozen jars that day. It was a hit with my family! So much so that I started gifting jars of pasta sauce to friends and family.
This is how Rustic Hen Acres came to be—my commitment to providing better food for my family turned into a passion for offering clean, chemical-free items from our little homestead to yours.
I’m excited to bring our products to your family through this amazing collaboration with my own family members, Angie and Tony—the wonderful folks you know as Twisted Ash Farm and Dairy!
All of my offerings are made with quality ingredients. From us, you can expect a commitment to using only sustainable, reusable packaging. You need not fear chemicals, toxins, or BPA. All the love that comes with homemade, and none of the worries of today’s big-chain store offerings!
